Houston, Texas is the hometown of Queen Bey herself. Throughout my trip there for work, I couldn’t get the part of “Girls” out of my mind when Beyonce sings “Houston, Texas baby.”
Houston is the most populous city in Texas. The city is the 4th most populous in the US. It was the capital of Texas at one point in history.
The walk-able downtown of Houston is known as the theater district. This is where 19th century buildings can be seen. There are many high end restaurants in this area. I ate fried chicken on top of poblano mashed potatoes with a side of collard greens. It was delicious.
One of the nicest aspects of walking in downtown Houston is that there is a lot of street art. There are walls filled with colorful murals and sculptures placed all around downtown.
There is a train that runs throughout the downtown area. This makes commuters lives easier, but pedestrians should watch out when crossing the street.
One of the most notable places to visit is the Space Center. This didn’t particularly interest me so I stuck to wandering around and eating, two of my favorite past times. In a way, Brownsville, Texas had more charm. All in all, Houston is cute but maybe for only a few hours until the glow of being in a different city fades.
